GIPTSAL - Globalization, modern technologies and climate change provide both new opportunities and hazards for salmonid breeding management.
The project focusses on production of healthy and high-quality rainbow trout with three main pillars: healthy environment, enhanced immunity, and lineages resistant to selected diseases (PKD, Flavo). Multi-omics and classic genetic approaches will be used to choose suitable breeding material and for monitoring environmental pathogens. Nanotechnology benefits, preparations for preventive and therapeutic baths and use of probiotics, prebiotics and immunostimulants for supporting resistance will be tested, alongside controlled challenges and stress tests. Breeders will have a private zone in the e-module ‘Healthy stock’ for application of European concept of genetically controlled stock. A risk factor early warning system will be developed, outlining critical factors and elimination methods.
